Watch: Rohit's Hilarious Comment On 'Future' As Chahal Shows Massage Table

Team India have taken 1-0 lead over New Zealand in the three-match series after they registered a 12-run victory in the first ODI. The hosts posted a total of 349/8 in 50 overs after Shubman Gill rose to the occasion and slammed his maiden ODI double hundred. Later, Mohammed Siraj took a four-wicket haul as New Zealand were bundled out for 337. Ahead of the second ODI, the Rohit Sharma led-side has reached Raipur as the match will be played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium.

On the eve of the second ODI, BCCI posted a video on Twitter in which, veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was seen giving a dressing room tour to all the viewers. However, a moment in the video grabbed everyone's attention where skipper Rohit Sharma passed a hilarious comment on Chahal's "future".

In the video, Chahal showed a massage table to the viewers and said, "Yeh humara massage table hai. Jab bhi kisi ko back relief ya koi treatment chahiye hota hai, toh vo iss table pe hota hai. (This is our massage table. Whenever someone needs back relief or any kind of treatment, then it is given on this table.)."

Suddenly, Rohit appeared in the frame and said, "Acha future hai tera. (Your future is bright.)." The Indian skipper's comment left the 32-year-old spinner in splits as he could not control his laughter.

Chahal played only in the first ODI of the three-match series against Sri Lanka, where he scalped one wicket. He was also benched for the first ODI against New Zealand.

India's Predicted XI vs NZ, 2nd ODI: Will Umran Malik Find A Place?

Team India registered a 12-run victory in a thrilling first ODI against New Zealand and took 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Shubman Gill became the star for the hosts as he smashed his maiden double hundred and guided Team India to a total of 349/8. Later, Mohammed Siraj continued his blistering form and scalped four wickets as the visitors were restricted to 337, despite a heroic knock from Michael Bracewell (140). As the Rohit Sharma-led side benched young pacer Umran Malik in their last two ODI games, there are chances that he might find himself a place in the Playing XI in the second ODI against New Zealand on Saturday.

Here's what we think could be India's predicted XI vs New Zealand in the second ODI:

Rohit Sharma: The Indian skipper looked in good touch as he formed a promising partnership with Shubman Gill before departing for 34 off 38 balls. Rohit will definitely look to get a big score in the second ODI.

Shubman Gill: The young opener shattered numerous records during the first ODI after he achieved his maiden double hundred and became the youngest player in the world to reach the landmark. He will be the centre of attention in the second ODI.

Virat Kohli: The star batter completely shut the critics with a phenomenal performance in the ODIs against Sri Lanka. Even though he was dismissed for 8 runs in the first ODI against New Zealand, he will look to bounce back in the second match.

Suryakumar Yadav: The 32-year-old batter played a quick knock of 31 off 26 balls and gave a strong support to Gill. He has shown his true mettle in the previous matches and will definitely be looking for a big innings.

Ishan Kishan: After being benched for the ODIs against Sri Lanka despite scoring a double ton against Bangladesh, the wicketkeeper-batter failed to leave a mark in the first match against the Kiwis as he got dismissed for 5.

Hardik Pandya: The all-rounder scored 28 runs off 38 balls in the first ODI. He also scalped one wicket but he turned out to be really expensive as he conceded 70 runs in his seven-over spell.

Washington Sundar: Coming in as a replacement for Shreyas Iyer, the all-rounder scored 12 runs off 14 balls but went wicketless with the ball.

Shardul Thakur: The bowling all-rounder could get only three runs with the bat but went on to scalp two wickets. His economy in the first ODI was 7.40.

Kuldeep Yadav: The wrist-spinner once again proved his worth in the team as he scalped two wickets and also delivered a maiden over. He only conceded 43 runs in his eight-over spell.

Mohammad Shami: The veteran pacer scalped one wicket and leaked 69 runs in 10 overs. However, he also picked up an injury on his finger while trying to take a catch. There are chances that the management might give him a rest and bring Umran Malik in his place.

Mohammed Siraj: The 28-year-old pacer completely dismantled New Zealand's batting line-up as he scalped four wickets. Siraj is still looking for his maiden five-wicket haul in the ODIs.

Watch: Jadeja Gears Up For Australia Tests, Bowls In Nets With Taped Knee

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja's participation in the Test series against Australia remains a mystery. Jadeja, who has been out of action due to a knee injury, was added to India's squad for the first two Tests against the Aussies, but a call on his availability will be taken ahead of the first Test as he has not fully recovered yet. Taking to Twitter, Jadeja shared a video of him bowling in the nets, but with a protective tape wrapped around his right knee.

"Left arm around #priority," Jadeja captioned the video.

Jadeja had injured his knee during an Asia Cup match against Hong Kong last year. His previous first-class match was the rescheduled one-off Test at Edgbaston against England last July.

Jadeja has not played any competitive cricket since the T20I against Hong Kong in the Asia Cup on August 31 and his previous first-class match was the rescheduled one-off Test at Edgbaston against England last July.

The star all-rounder missed the T20 World Cup last year in which India suffered an embarrassing 10-wicket loss at the hands of England in the semi-final.

He is reportedly set to play Saurashtra's final group stage match in Ranji Trophy. The game is scheduled to kick off on January 24.

"It will be good if he plays for Saurashtra. Probably he will, but I don't have any further details," Saurashtra Cricket Association president Jaydev Shah told PTI.

The left-handed batter is seen as a vital cog in India's line-up, especially in absence of Rishabh Pant at No 5 or 6 in the middle-order.

Google Says It Will Cooperate With Antitrust Body After Android Decision

"Cricket Needs A Player Like Him": Ex-Pak Captain's Huge Praise For Gill

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt feels "cricket needs a player" like Shubman Gill, after the young opening batter smashed a double century in the first ODI against New Zealand on Wednesday. Gill smashed 208 off 149 balls and set up India's 12-run win over the Kiwis at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. He became the youngest-ever double centurion in international cricket. Butt suggested that if Gill continues to play like this, he can become one of the greats of the game.

"I became a big fan of Shubman Gill ever-since I saw him playing in the Test championship final against New Zealand. His elegance and style in his strokes are really commendable. The only concern I had was that why isn't he able to achieve a big score. But he played a very different kind of cricket yesterday. Very less people have such type of finish in their style at such a young age. I think he is one of his kind. I am not saying that he has achieved everything in his career but if he continues to play like this and work hard then he will be on the path where he will achieve greatness," Butt said on his YouTube channel.

Butt also likened Gill to several greats of the game, mainly due to the elegance with which he bats in the middle.

"The kind of game he played yesterday, he proved that he is not only about power-hitting but can also play a responsible innings as he kept on losing the major players at the other end. Cricket needs player like him as these days the players are losing the kind of touch Sachin Tendulkar, Mark Waugh, Saaed Anwar, Jacques Kallis had. Cricket has lost its beauty, and the kind of innings he played is the real beauty of cricket," he added.

"Virat Kohli Sacrifices His...": Ex-India Star On Selection Headache vs NZ

After easing past Sri Lanka, India have taken a 1-0 lead against New Zealand in the ODI series. With KL Rahul unavailable for the New Zealand series due to personal reasons and Shreyas Iyer ruled out with an injury, opener Ishan Kishan has been roped in to complement Suryakumar Yadav in the Indian middle-order. Notably, Kishan did not feature in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, while Suryakumar only played the last game.

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar suggested Virat Kohli to sacrifice his no. 3 slot, which might solve India's selection headache.

He feels Kohli should give up his spot to in-form opener Shubman Gill, and bat at no.4 instead, something which he had done in 2014 to accommodate Ambati Rayudu in the playing XI.

"It's going to be still tricky. One guy is going to be really upset. I have got an idea to sort this mess out. Have Shubman Gill bat at No. 3, he seems like he can handle that position, and then Virat Kohli sacrifices his No. 3 for a No. 4. He has done that before to Ambati Rayudu once, many years back against Sri Lanka. So that could be a way to sort it out. Ishan Kishan after his double hundred, left and right-handed combination at the top is not such a bad idea," Manjrekar said on Star Sports.

Talking about the 1st ODI, Shubman Gill scored a brilliant 208 as India held on to beat New Zealand by 12 runs in the first One-Day International in Hyderabad on Wednesday despite a blistering century from Michael Bracewell. India looked to be coasting to victory with New Zealand in deep trouble at 131-6 while chasing 350 after opener Gill made just the 10th double hundred in ODI history.

All-rounder Bracewell responded by making 140 off 78 balls before falling in the final over when he was pinned leg before wicket by Shardul Thakur.

Disciplined early spells by India fast bowlers Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj restricted New Zealand before Bracewell's late fireworks gave them hope of a sensational win.

Finn Allen struck a breezy 40 at the top of the order but New Zealand were facing a heavy defeat once Siraj removed Latham for the sixth wicket. Bracewell was then joined by left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner, who hit 57 of 45 balls as part of an impressive 162-run partnership before falling to Siraj.

Bracewell smacked 12 fours and 10 sixes but finished on the losing side as Siraj was the pick of the Indian bowlers with figures of 4-46.

Earlier, the 23-year-old Gill helped India post a formidable total of 349-8 after an innings spanning 149 balls and featuring 19 fours and nine sixes.

West Indies May 'Cease To Exist' If Players Prioritise T20 Leagues: Report

West Indies cricket may "cease to exist" unless the issue of its players prioritising global Twenty20 leagues ahead of international duties is resolved, according to a report commissioned by Cricket West Indies (CWI). The report from a three-man panel made up of former captain and batting great Brian Lara, experienced South African coach Mickey Arthur and a senior judge Patrick Thompson, was commissioned after West Indies' shock early exit from last year's T20 World Cup in Australia.

West Indies have struggled with availability issues for players who feature in the Indian Premier League and other T20 competitions around the world.

"It is essential that some middle ground is arrived at. Otherwise, West Indies cricket may cease to exist as an entity," said the report.

"This group does not indulge in doomsday predictions but no entity, sporting or otherwise, has a viable future if its talent is not harnessed and effectively managed," the report added.

"It is not in the best interests of West Indies cricket that our best players play in every global league and play for the WI Team on an optional basis," the report said.

The report urged a "frank and honest discussion" about the issue in order to find a solution to what it called an "impasse"

One of the issues blocking better agreement about player schedules and availability is the long-standing conflicts between players and CWI, the report said.

"In this group's view, there is significant distrust between the players and administration and this distrust is inimical to ensuring that the best 11 players turn out for the WI Team in every match," the report said.

The report made a series of recommendations for improving the functioning of the West Indies team ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup which will be held in the Caribbean and the United States.

But the authors did not back the idea of a separate coach for red ball and white ball teams given the limited amount of Test cricket being played.

They also suggested that key players for the T20 side should be given more exposure to Test cricket in order to get used to the conditions and standard of opposition.

West Indies have enjoyed success in the T20 format, winning the World Cup in 2012 and 2016 -- only England have also won the competition twice.

But in Australia, the Caribbean side finished bottom of their group, finishing behind Zimbabwe, Ireland and Scotland.

The report said the team were "underprepared" and pointed the finger at the short time between the Caribbean Premier League tournament and the T20 World Cup.

The report said that unless change was made, the talent pool of Caribbean players risked being used by others.

"WI cricket does not lack for talent but our small size in comparison with other cricketing nations means that we cannot afford to lose any talented players.

"Cricket West Indies (CWI) must develop and create clear pathways for the identification, development and management of talent. Otherwise, WI cricket runs the risk of being strip-mined by other professional leagues that can afford to harvest and develop our players for their benefit."

"WWE Champion Robin Uthappa": Fans Amused As Star Gets Green Belt In ILT20

Former India and Karnataka batter Robin Uthappa, who was part of the Indian team that won the 2007 T20 World Cup, announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket in September last year. The star is now pursuing his passion abroad and is currently playing in the ILT20 - a franchise league in the United Arab Emirates. Playing for Dubai Capitals, he became the became the first player to receive the Green Belt after his 79-run knock off 46 balls against Gulf Giants at the Dubai International Stadium on Monday. Uthappa is currently leading the top run-scorer's chart with 122 runs.

Interestingly, the green belt that Robin Uthappa received had an uncanny resemblance with the belts that WWE wrestlers receive after a championship win. It had the fans amused.

Recently, Uthappa, who played his last two IPLs for CSK and decided to call it a day at the end of the 2022 season, said the trend of making "constant changes" in the India squad was making players feel unsafe.

"I think there is a lack of sense of security among the players in the team. There have been constant changes in the team for a long time, when a player does not feel safe, he always remains with the mindset of saving his place in the team," he told news agency PTI.

Uthappa, who won the IPL three times, said, "I think it is important to give a sense of security to the players. What we are seeing is, for the last few years, too many changes are going on. And in crucial matches, their performance dips because they are not sure of their place in (the) team for the next match."

Citing the example of MI and CSK, the two most successful IPL teams having won five and four titles respectively, Uthappa added, "You look at IPL, most of the times such teams have won the titles which have made less changes in the playing XI. The success of Chennai (Super Kings) and Mumbai (Indians) also proves this."

Sunil Gavaskar Has His Say On Virat Kohli's Dismissal Against New Zealand

Former Indian cricket team skipper Sunil Gavaskar was critical of Virat Kohli after the right-hander was dismissed cheaply by Mitchell Santner during the first ODI encounter between India and New Zealand in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Kohli came into the series on the back of two massive hundreds against Sri Lanka but was unable to repeat his magic. He was foxed by a straight delivery from Santner that did very little off the pitch and it crashed into the off stump after Kohli failed to make any contact with his bat.

"He's played inside the line, therefore allowing the ball to turn just that little bit to go past the outside edge. He has played back to a ball that he should have played forward to. It wasn't a short ball. It just turned a little bit, and it went past the outside edge of a batter who is in tremendous form," he said.

Shubman Gill settled the debate for the opener's slot with a coming of age doubled hundred before India survived Michael Bracewell's blitzkrieg to pull off a nervy 12-run win over New Zealand in the first ODI of the three-match series In Hyderabad  on Wednesday. Gill oozed class in his special 208 off 149 balls and batted through the innings to power India to 349 for eight. Skipper Rohit Sharma's 34 off 38 was the second best score of the innings, highlighting that it was very much a one-man show.

Chasing a big target, New Zealand were down and out at 131 for six before Michael Bracewell (140 off 78) came up with up a stunning century to bring his team back in the game from nowhere.

He shared 162 off 102 balls with fellow left-hander Mitchell Santer (57 off 45), New Zealand's highest seventh wicket stand in ODIs, to test India's nerves.

Playing in front of his home crowd, pacer Mohammed Siraj (4/46) produced a match-winning effort to stop New Zealand, who ended at 337.

After India opted to bat, the 23-year-old Gill owned the stage and became the youngest batter to score a double hundred in ODI history. By doing so, he broke the record of Ishan Kishan, who was controversially dropped for the Sri Lanka ODIs after smashing a double ton in Bangladesh last month.

Gill, who was touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket ever since he displayed his talent in the 2018 U-19 World Cup, hammered 19 fours and nine sixes, six of them coming after his 150. The double century was also his second successive three digit score.
