Rupee Opens 11 Paise Lower At 81.80 Against US Dollar In Early Trade

The rupee depreciated 13 paise to 81.82 against the US dollar in early trade on Wednesday, as a strengthening American currency and firm crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiments.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened weak at 81.80 against the dollar, then fell to 81.82, registering a decline of 13 paise over its last close.

In the previous session on Tuesday, the rupee settled at 81.69 against the US dollar.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.49 per cent to 102.88.

Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, advanced 0.65 per cent to USD 86.48 per barrel.

Traders said market participants remain cautious ahead of the Bank of Japan's policy statement.

Bank of Japan has been by far the most dovish central bank and has used all kinds of unconventional tools to keep its policy ultra accommodative. Any departure from this policy would therefore be a huge shift, IFA Global Research Academy said in a research note.

"We expect the USD/INR spot to trade in a 81.55-81.85 range with sideways price action," it added.

In the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 157.99 points or 0.26 per cent higher at 60,813.71. The broader NSE Nifty advanced 44.60 points or 0.25 per cent to 18,097.90.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) turned net buyers in the capital markets on Tuesday as they purchased shares worth Rs 211.06 crore, according to exchange data.

"Grow Up...": Pakistan Batter Shuts Down Journalist Trolling Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli has clearly regained his golden touch. In the last three matches that he played ahead of the ODI series against New Zealand, the former India skipper scored two tons. Kohli now has 76 tons in international cricket - 27 in Tests, 46 in ODIs and 1 in T20Is. He is currently only behind Sachin Tendulkar (100 tons) in the list of batters with most centuries. However, till a few months ago Kohli was struggling after having not scored a ton in over two years. With reference to this point, a Pakistan journalist tried to troll Kohli saying that he performs "when there's no pressure."

However, he faced a strong rebuttal from Pakistan middle-order batter Sohaib Maqsood, a veteran of 29 ODI and 26 T20Is.

"Virat Kohli is at his best when there's no pressure, series not on the line and conditions great for batting. There's no harm in gaining confidence and form in such matches, India need him to perform well in Test cricket with Australia coming over too tho," the journalist named Farid Khan tweeted.

To which, Maqsood replied: "Are you sure he is only best when there is no pressure grow up yar two wrongs dont make one right."

The journalist, however, was in no mood to stop as he wrote: "Sohaib bhai, for a player to regain confidence nothing helps more than favourable conditions. He had a lean patch but he needed a match against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup when India were not in the tournament and then against Bangladesh when they had lost the series already."

However, Maqsood did not waver from his point of view. "When he wasnt getting runs he wasnt even getting on these roads tell me the country or pitches where he hasnt scored centuries???if they troll baber we all know how bigger player is baber ignore that," he tweeted.

Maruti Suzuki To Recall 17,362 Vehicles To Fix Faulty Airbag Controller

Maruti Suzuki India on Wednesday said it is recalling 17,362 units of models like Alto K10, Brezza and Baleno to inspect and replace faulty airbag controller.

The affected models are Alto K10, S-Presso, Eeco,  Brezza, Baleno and Grand Vitara, manufactured between December 8, 2022 and January 12, 2023, the country's largest carmaker said in a regulatory filing.

"The recall is being undertaken to inspect and replace airbag controller free of cost, if required in these vehicles," it added.

It is suspected that there is a possible defect in the affected part, which in rare cases might result in non-deployment of the airbags and seat belt pretensioners, in the event of a vehicle crash, the auto major stated.

"Out of abundant caution, customers of the suspected vehicles are advised not to drive or use the vehicle till the affected part is replaced," it said.

Affected vehicle owners will be receiving communication from Maruti Suzuki authorised workshops for immediate attention, the company noted.

India Toppled Australia As World No. 1 Test Side For 2 Hours. Here's How

Ahead of their four-match Test series against Australia at home, Team India found their name at the top of the ICC Test team rankings, thanks to a technical glitch on the website. ICC Test rankings tend to change only at the end of every series, and neither Australia nor India is currently not part of any. The rankings were last updated on January 8, 2023 after Australia defeated South Africa 2-0 in a three-match series at home.

The Pat Cummins-led side was placed at the top of the table with 126 rating points, while Team India occupy the second spot with 115 rating points.

However, due to an alleged technical glitch on ICC's website, India pipped Australia in the Test rankings.

Fans took screenshots of standings and posted tweets, but the glitch lasted for just two hours as Australia reclaimed the top spot.

As per the screenshots shared by fans, India retained their rating point, but grabbed the top spot by virtue of Australia losing 15 points.

Also, South Africa, who are fourth-ranked, slipped to the fifth spot while West Indies jumped from eighth to the sixth spot.

India, however, will have the chance to go above Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scheduled to start on February 9.

The hosts announced their squad for the first two Tests, while the touring side has also named its 18-man squad.

India Test squad (First two games): Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (vc), Shubman Gill, C Pujara, V Kohli, S Iyer, KS Bharat (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), R Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Suryakumar Yadav

Australia Test squad: Pat Cummins (capt), Ashton Agar, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Peter Handscomb, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Lance Morris, Todd Murphy, Matthew Renshaw, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Swepson, David Warner.

Maruti Suzuki Recalls These Popular Car Models Over Airbag Issues

India's top carmaker Maruti Suzuki on Wednesday said it is recalling 17,362 vehicles manufactured between Dec. 8, 2022 and Jan. 12, 2023 over a possible defect in its airbag controllers.

The recall is to inspect and replace the affected part of the airbag controller, which could, in rare situations, not deploy the airbags and seat belt pretensioners in the event of a vehicle crash, Maruti added.

The affected models are Alto K10, S-Presso, Eeco, Brezza, Baleno and Grand Vitara, the company said in a regulatory filing.

"Will You Open Test Innings With Boundary Too?", Asks Gill. Ishan Responds

Flamboyant Indian batter Ishan Kishan has given his stocks a great push, having been selected in the Indian squad for the first two Tests against Australia. Having already represented India in both T20Is and ODIs, this is the first time the wicket-keeper batter has been picked in the Indian team for the longest format. Speaking of the moment, Ishan was interviewed by teammate Shubman Gill in a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Twitter. In the video, Ishan admitted that his father always branded Test cricket as the 'real deal'.

"I am very happy. Whenever I was doing well in white-ball cricket my father used to say that Test cricket is the real deal. He says that Test has the real challenges, it tests the skills of batters and it is a big thing to play Test cricket," Ishan said in the video.

"I am very happy to make it to the Test team, because people perceive it as the real game. I will try hard to do well," Kishan further added.

The southpaw revealed what his dad's reaction was when he informed him of his maiden Test call-up.

"I called home and told them the news. My dad was hyped up and told me to work hard like this," Kishan revealed.

Speaking about his experience of playing with the red ball, Ishan said that it's a different challenge to face swinging deliveries in a tense atmosphere where players are sledging each other. When asked by Gill if he would open his Test innings with a boundary too, having done so in T20Is and ODIs, Ishan gave quite a sensible answer.

"I love playing with the red ball. The ball swings a little, people sledge, you have time and there is less pressure and that is why I love playing," Kishan spoke about his time with the Ranji team.

"In my batting position at Tests (No. 6), it is important to understand the situation. If I go in the middle and play like I usually do (hitting big shots), that would let down the team," Kishan said.

"I have the experience now that rather than hitting sixes, you try to get the team in a good position by playing sensibly," he added.

About the difference between white and red ball cricket, Ishan knows what he cannot do.

"There's a big difference in white and red ball cricket. In white ball the ball does not swing that much, but with red ball you have to use your brains more and you cannot keep showing off your youngster enthusiasm," the young wicket-keeper batter further said.

Sussex Sign Pakistan's Shadab Khan For T20 Vitality Blast

Sussex Cricket announced the signing of Pakistan international allrounder, Shadab Khan for the 2023 T20 Vitality Blast, on Tuesday. Khan, who was appointed vice-captain for Pakistan's limited-over teams in 2021, will join the Sussex Sharks for the entirety of the Blast campaign. The all-rounder who bowls eight-arm leg-spin has made 84 T20I appearances for Pakistan, taking 98 wickets, with best figures of 4-8. Shadab made his T20I debut for Pakistan against the West Indies in 2017 and made his mark instantly, winning the Man of the Match awards in back-to-back games, taking a total of 7 wickets for 21 runs.

In his 38 T20I innings, Khan has scored 476 runs at a strike rate of 143.8 and a personal best score of 52.

Sussex' bowling coach James Kirtley, said, "Shadab will provide an amazing experience in our middle order, he is someone who has played all around the world and has experienced many situations, which can only benefit our team."

"He really does provide flexibility to our side as he can score runs and take wickets in crucial moments, but more than anything else he is an experienced head that Ravi can go to as captain to look for support when making crucial in-game decisions. I know that he will have a massive impact on our team this year," the coach was quoted as saying in a statement released by Sussex on its website.

Khan has already played 225 domestic T20 matches at the age of 24, accumulating 2088 runs at a strike rate of 136.91.

Having played for Yorkshire in the Blast last season, Khan is looking forward to emulating Mushtaq Ahmed in turning out for Sussex at the first Central County Ground.

"I love playing in England. I know Mushtaq Ahmed is a legend at Sussex and it is an honour to follow in his footsteps. Sussex has a proud history and I hope that my skillset will help the team achieve great things at the Blast this year," said the Pakistan all-rounder.

"I Didn't Get The Freedom Of Virender Sehwag": Murali Vijay

Former India opener Murali Vijay has made some honest admissions about his career in the national team. Having last played for India in 2018, Vijay found his opportunities frozen. Having opened with Virender Sehwag in India's Test team for a fair amount of time, Vijay has now opened up about the indifferent treatment he received, especially in terms of backing from the team management. Vijay claimed that he could've also tried a few things had the team management backed him the way they supported Sehwag.

In a chat with WV Raman on Sportstar, Vijay said: "Consciously, I didn't get the freedom of Virender Sehwag to be honest. Whatever Sehwag got in his life, I didn't. If I could have got that kind of backing and open-spreaded talks, I could have also tried. The honest thing is the team's backing and how you can contribute to the team in international level. It's a high-level competition and you don't have many chances to experiment different ways."

Vijay also opened up about the experience of playing with Sehwag. The veteran batter said that he found it hard to control his instincts on seeing Sehwag bat the way he did.

"When Sehwag was there, I felt controlling my instincts and playing was hard but to see him go through that kind of freedom was something spectacular.

"Only he could have done that. Nobody else I feel could have played like Sehwag. What he did for Indian cricket was amazing. Different... he is something else which I have seen visually. I had the privilege to interact with him. It was so simple. He kept his mantra so simple - See the ball and hit. He was in that mode; singing songs to 145-150 kph bowlers. You are experiencing something else. It's not normal," he further added.

Having put the 'BCCI chapter' to an end, Vijay is now looking for opportunities abroad.

Rupee Down 31 Paise To 81.89 Against US Dollar

The rupee depreciated 31 paise to 81.89 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday weighed down by a rebound in American currency and firm crude oil prices.

Sustained foreign fund outflows further dented investor sentiments, forex traders said.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened weak at 81.79 against the dollar, then fell to 81.89, registering a decline of 31 paise over its last close.

In the previous session on Monday, the rupee settled at 81.58 against the US dollar.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.18 per cent to 102.38.

Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, advanced 0.19 per cent to USD 84.62 per barrel.

Babar Azam's Alleged Private Videos, WhatsApp Chats 'Leaked', Fans React

Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam has been the central talking point in the cricketing spectrum over his recent performances. While ups and downs are part of every sportsperson's life, the star batter is now making headlines for all the wrong reasons. In what has been claimed as a 'leak', a few videos and WhatsApp chats, allegedly of the Pakistani cricketer, have surfaced online. The screenshots of the alleged chats and private videos have reportedly been 'leaked', leading to a storm on social media, with some even claiming that Babar has been 'sexting' with the girlfriend of another Pakistani cricketer.

Seeing the huge number of videos, chats, and audio files, purportedly of Babar, that have been shared on social media, a number of fans have lambasted the star batter. But, there are those too who have jumped to the defence of the Pakistan team's skipper.

A user on Instagram made a post, seemingly targeting Babar, with the caption: "Hope you get what you did. Can you not support a woman as a woman? Are you making noise because I am showing his true colours? The garbage will be revealed. He has to reap what he sowed. I will reveal the truth before committing suicide."

Babar himself is yet to react to the controversy. On Monday night, however, he did take to Twitter to post a rather cryptic tweet.

Babar wrote: "Doesn't take too much to be happy", with a picture of himself.

It isn't the first time that Babar Azam has found himself embroiled in this sort of controversy. In 2020, a woman had claimed that the Pakistani cricketer had promised to marry him and got her pregnant.

"I have known Babar since the time he had nothing to do with cricket. He was from a poor household. I hope all my brothers and sisters here are going to help me get justice so that no daughter gets to go through what I have. Babar and I have grown up in the same colony, we used to stay together," the woman had said.

"He was my school friend. In 2010, he proposed to me and I accepted his proposal. He in fact proposed to me after coming to my house. As time progressed, our understanding got better. We had planned to get married and informed our families too but they refused," she added.

"Then Babar and I decided to have a court marriage. In 2011, Babar and I eloped and having promised me of marriage, kept me at rented places. During that time, I kept asking him to get married but he said 'we are not in a position to. With time, we will get married'," she had further claimed.

Later, however, the woman dropped all her charges on the cricketer.

Be it Babar or the Pakistan Cricket Board, an official statement on the matter is yet to be made.

Watch: Christian Warns To Run Batter Out At Non-Striker's End In BBL Match

Sydney Sixers defeated Perth Scorchers by 6 runs in their previous match in the ongoing edition of the Big Bash League on Sunday. Chasing 152, the Scorchers were restricted to 145/7 despite an unbeaten knock of 66 runs by Stephen Eskinazi. For Sixers, Sean Abbott took three wickets while Hayden Kerr and Daniel Christian scalped two wickets each. Wicketkeeper Josh Philippe top-scored for the Sixers and guided them to a total of 151/5 in 20 overs. However, an interesting incident was captured during the game which grabbed eyeballs.

During the 19th over of Scorchers' chase, Christian got ready to deliver a ball to Andrew Tye but came back after he noticed that Eskinazi, who was standing at the non-striker's end, was out of the crease before the ball was bowled.

Christian did not run out Eskinazi but said, "It was a warning mate."

Watch it here:

However, this was not the first instance of a bowler dismissing or warning a player at the non-striker's end. Earlier, Melbourne Stars skipper Adam Zampa attempted to run out Melbourne Renegades' Tom Rogers at the non-striker's end as he went out of the crease.

The decision was reviewed and the third umpire did not consider it a run out as Zampa's arm had "gone past the vertical", which according to ICC rule is not considered legal for such a dismissal.

Sydney Sixers will now be going up against Adelaide Strikers in their next match on Tuesday while Perth Scorchers will be facing Hobart Hurricanes on Wednesday.

Sri Lanka Cricket Seeks Report Of Team's 317-Run Loss To India In 3rd ODI

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Monday directed the manager of the men's national side to submit a report on the side's massive 317-run loss to India in the third and final ODI on Sunday at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. "Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has directed the manager of the national team to submit a report pertaining to Sri Lanka's heavy defeat faced against India in the 3rd ODI, which was played on January 15, 2023 at Thiruvananthapuram," said a statement from the governing body of the sport in the country.

"The report should consist of views of the captain, the head coach, and the selection panel and also the team manager pertaining to the loss," added the statement.

SLC has requested the team manager to submit the report within a 5-day period.

The report will enable Sri Lanka Cricket to review and understand the background to the team's dismal performances during the final ODI, which it lost by 317 runs after being bowled out for 73 in 22 overs.

India has clinched the series 3-0. They have also recorded the biggest win in terms of runs in the history of ODI cricket and are the first team ever to register a win by a margin of 300 runs or more.

Electing to bat first, India got off to a wonderful start, with skipper Rohit Sharma (42) having an opening stand of 95 runs with Shubman Gill. Later, Gill teamed with Virat Kohli to stitch a 131-run second wicket stand and brought up his second ODI ton, before being dismissed for 116 off 97 balls. Virat took Lankan bowlers to the attack, smashing an unbeaten 166 off 110 balls, consisting of 12 fours and eight sixes.

For SL, Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara picked two wickets each while Chamika Karunaratne got one scalp.

Chasing 391, Sri Lanka could not put up a fight and a powerplay spell from Mohammed Siraj (4/32) demolished any hopes of redemption, leaving Lanka at 39/6. The visitors were dismissed for just 73 and lost the match by 317 runs.

Siraj's spell of 4/32 proved to be lethal for Lanka. Kuldeep Yadav (2/16) and Mohammed Shami (2/20) got wickets too. Only three Lanka batters, Nuwanidu Fernando (19), skipper Dasun Shanaka (11) and Kasun Rajitha (13*) touched double digits.

Virat Kohli won the 'Man of the Match' award for his match-winning ton and also the 'Man of the Series' for scoring 283 runs in the series, which included two centuries.

PCB Chief Wants To Discuss Asia Cup With ACC President Jay Shah: Report

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi met officials of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in UAE and wants to meet the body's president Jay Shah, who is also Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, over Asia Cup 2023, as per sources. The sources revealed that Sethi has all of his focus on making sure that the 2023 edition of the tournament, to be hosted by Pakistan, is not moved out of his country. Last year, Jay Shah said that the tournament will be held at a neutral venue.

"Najam Sethi came here for the opening ceremony of the International League T20 (ILT20, a T20 league by Emirates Cricket Board). He met with ACC officials and expressed his wish to meet ACC president Jay Shah in February for a discussion over Asia Cup 2023," a source told ANI.

Earlier in December last year, former PCB chief Ramiz Raja said that Pakistan may consider pulling out of Asia Cup 2023 if their tournament hosting rights are withdrawn due to the Indian team not travelling to their country.

"It is not as if we do not have hosting rights and we are pleading to host it," Ramiz was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo on the sidelines of the Pakistan-England Test in Rawalpindi.

"We won the rights fair and square. If India does not come, they would not come. If the Asia Cup gets taken away from Pakistan, maybe we are the ones that pull out," he added.

Earlier in November, Ramiz Raja said that if India chooses to opt out of the Asia Cup which will be held in Pakistan next year, Pakistan will also not travel to India to participate in the 2023 50-over World Cup.

Following Shah's reported remarks, PCB had said the overall impact of such statements has the potential to split the Asian and international cricketing communities and can impact Pakistan's visit to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and future ICC Events in India in the 2024-2031 cycle.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said that India will host the 2023 WC with all teams.

The Sports Minister said that India is not afraid of any threat and it will not stop them from hosting the tournament."It is an internal matter of BCCI and it will handle the issue smartly. We have not done anything wrong yet while hosting international tournaments before. We have hosted World Cup successfully before and all teams participated happily. We will host the tournament next year and all teams will play in it," Thakur had said in October.

BCCI president Roger Binny also said that touring Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023 is not the board's call, but they will rely on the government's decision. "That is not our call. We cannot say where our team has to go. We need to take clearance from the government if we leave the country, or other countries come here. We cannot take that decision on our own, we have to rely on government," Binny had said.

Afterwards, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also said that the Men in Blue would focus on the T20 World Cup and stick to guidelines set by the apex board for cricket in India referring to BCCI secretary Jay Shah's remarks concerning India's travel to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup.

"My focus is on World Cup. Whatever BCCI decides we will go by that," Rohit had said while addressing a press conference ahead of the high-voltage clash against Pakistan.

Cricket teams stopped touring Pakistan after a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team back in 2009. It was only in 2015 that international tours resumed in the country. Since then, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Australia, England and New Zealand are some of the teams that have toured Pakistan for bilateral series.
