Shubman Sizzles As Gujarat Titans Begin IPL Title Defence In Style

Shubman Gill eclipsed Ruturaj Gaikwad's high-quality knock with a dazzling half-century as Gujarat Titans began their title defence with a convincing five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in the IPL opener in Ahmedabad on Friday. Gaikwad was all class in his 92 off 50 balls before Titans pulled things back in the middle overs to limit Chennai Super Kings to 178 for seven after opting to bowl first in front of a near capacity crowd at the world's largest cricket stadium. In the form of his life over the past three months, Gill played some jaw-dropping strokes in his 63 off 36 balls to set up a fine win for the home team. Titans got home in 19.2 overs.

Gill's opening partner Wriddhiman Saha showed he has still got it as he smashed a couple of sixes and as many fours in his 16-ball 25 that got the Titans going in the run chase.

Gill's best shot of the innings was the back foot punch off CSK's impact player Tushar Deshpande and he followed with a pick up shot over midwicket. Titans' impact player Sai Sudharsan, who was used in place of an injured Kane Williamson, contributed with 22 off 17 balls.

When Gill departed, Titans needed 41 off the last five overs but CSK managed to take the game down to the wire.

It needed a cameo from Rashid Khan (10 not out off 3) to settled the nerves in the Titans dressing room.

Earlier, it was a display of effortless hitting from Gaikwad, who relied on his lofted drives over extra cover and crisp pull shots to collect as many as nine sixes.

Apart from Gaikwad, the only other batter who put the Titans under pressure was Moeen Ali who came up with a 17-ball 23. Ali's flat six off Mohammad Shami on a free-hit ball was the highlight of his cameo.

Gaikwad pulled IPL debutant Joshua Little on his very first ball to set the tone of his innings. That over went for 15 runs and with Shami conceding 17 runs in the following over, CSK got the momentum they were looking for.

Titans' trump card Rashid Khan was introduced in the powerplay and as he often does, he got the wicket that his team was looking for by getting the dangerous looking Ali caught behind.

Rashid's second over saw him getting rid of England Test captain Ben Stokes, who too was caught by wicketkeeper Saha, leaving CSK at 70 for three.

However, the fall of wickets did not make Gaikwad change his game as he kept getting the boundaries. He welcomed Alzarri Joseph into the attack by smashing him for three sixes in the eighth over.

Titans did well to stem the flow of runs in the middle overs and got the wicket of Ambati Rayudu.

Shivam Dube struggled to find the big hits and that put pressure on Gaikwad who was caught in the deep in the 17th over and missed out on a deserving hundred.

Skipper M S Dhoni came out to bat at number eight but still managed to make an impact as he pulled Little for a six before flicking him for a four in the final over, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Williamson injured his knee while fielding at the boundary and limped off the field.

The last five overs yielded 45 runs for CSK.

Rashid Khan Overtakes Wanindu Hasaranga To Reclaim No. 1 T20I Bowler's Spot

Afghanistan's milestone victory against Pakistan echoed throughout the world of cricket. It was the first time Afghanistan had beaten Pakistan in a bilateral T20I series and star spinner Rashid Khan was the main beneficiary as he overtook Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga to again become the top ranked T20I bowler in the world once again. The right-arm bowler collected a wicket in each of the three matches against Pakistan in Sharjah, with his miserly economy rate in both of Afghanistan's victories during the first two games of the series being a standout.

Rashid's teammate Fazalhaq Farooqi was the standout pacer during the series with a total of five wickets and an economy rate of just 4.75 and the left-armer shot up an eye-catching 12 spots to third overall in the latest rankings update.

It means Afghanistan now have three players inside the top 10 of the T20I category for bowlers, with spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, part of the talented trio, at the eighth spot following his four wickets for the series against Pakistan.

While regular Pakistan skipper Babar Azam was rested for the series and he dropped one place to fourth in the T20I batter rankings, stand-in skipper Shadab Khan impressed and was duly rewarded on the latest rankings update.

Shadab improved eight spots to fourth on the T20I all-rounder rankings and jumped six places to 12th overall on the list for bowers, while teammate Mohammad Wasim shot up nine spots to 23rd in the same category.

West Indies' series victory over South Africa saw a host of their players jump up the T20I rankings list, with beanpole quick Alzarri Joseph improving 17 spots to 33rd overall for bowlers and teammate Johnson Charles jumping a whopping 92 places to 17th for batters.

South Africa duo Rilee Rossouw (up two spots to sixth) and Reeza Hendricks (up eight places to 12th) also made good ground on the T20I rankings for batters in what was a high-scoring and entertaining series.

There was some movement on the ODI charts this week too, following the completion of Australia's series away from home in India and Zimbabwe's series with the Netherlands.

Australia spinner Adam Zampa jumped three places to sixth overall on the list for ODI bowlers, while Zimbabwe veteran Sikandar Raza improved one spot to fifth in the all-rounder category.

India opener Shubman Gill rose to a career-high rating of 738 points in fifth place on the list for ODI batters, with skipper Rohit Sharma jumping one spot to eighth overall in the same category.

Why Bajaj Finance Share Price Is Falling

Shares of Bajaj Finance fell for the second consecutive session this week, leaving investors jittery in a volatile market.

With the ongoing correction, the market cap of Bajaj Finance has slipped by 90 billion (bn) to Rs 3.3 trillion (tn) in a matter of ten days.

The stock has faced similar declines in the past too. In 2022, Bajaj Finance demonstrated a subpar performance for the first time in 14 years.

The word on the street is that the stock could be in for a major correction and the worst is yet to come.

At the time, we covered a detailed editorial on the stock - Bajaj Finance: death at a funeral.

Bajaj Finance shares are now again stuck with another blow.

Here is why the company's share price is falling.

#1 Increasing competition in home loan market

Bajaj Finance is encountering several difficulties in expanding its operations due to stiff competition in the home loan sector.

The firm commands a significant market share in MSME/personal loans among NBFCs, where banks are increasingly challenging their dominance.

Its deceleration in growth is primarily attributable to its large size and intensifying competition. Notably, the firm has already achieved an impressive 23% compound annual growth rate (CAGR), which remains unmatched by any other Indian bank, non-banking financial company (NBFC), or housing finance company (HFC) over the last few decades.

Additionally, Bajaj Finance holds a significant market share of 45% in the NBFC segment's commercial/personal loans, with rising competition from banks.

The cost of funds is likely to be 2.5% higher than large banks which makes it uncompetitive. Growth in home loans for Bajaj Finance is expected to negatively impact RoA (Return on Asset) /RoE (Return on Equity) due to low NIM.

#2 Asset growth to slow down

As an NBFC, scaling up adequate liabilities is likely to be challenging due to regulatory limits on deposit mobilization and capital providers' exposure to NBFCs.

Furthermore, the narrowing of growth differentials has caused a decline in valuations due to the faster loan growth at banks and other NBFC stocks fueled by strong sector tailwinds.

Further, it faces hurdles in accelerating its retail liabilities growth as it lacks access to low-cost CASA (current account and savings account) deposit.

Additionally, if interest rates continue to rise it may negatively impact Bajaj Finance's margins as it may not be able to pass on the additional rate hikes due to the steep interest rate hike observed in the past ten months.

How Bajaj Finance shares have performed recently

Bajaj Finance shares have declined by more than 8% in a month. Over the past week, the company's shares are trading lower by 2%.

On a YTD basis, Bajaj Finance share price is down 14%.

Bajaj Finance touched its 52-week high of Rs 7,778 on 22 September 2022 while it touched a 52-week low of Rs 5,220 on 17 June 2022.

Australia's Steve Smith To Debut As Commentator at Indian Premier League

Australia's Steve Smith will debut as a commentator at the upcoming Indian Premier League, the tournament's broadcaster said Tuesday, ending the mystery about his return to the event. The 16th edition of the cash-rich Twenty20 extravaganza begins Friday in Ahmedabad, with 10 teams and a host of global stars in attendance for the eight-week tournament. "Steve Smith has joined the expert panel for the marquee tournament. Smith will be making his broadcast debut with Star Sports, adding his invaluable insights and expertise to Star Sports' already impressive roster of panelists," the broadcaster said in a statement.

Smith, 33, announced his return to the tournament on Twitter on Monday, saying in a teaser video: "Namaste, India. I've got some exciting news for you: I'm joining IPL 2023."

That post sparked speculation he might return to the tournament as a player. The video drew considerable mirth on social media for Smith's robot-like performance in the 15-second clip, during which he didn't blink.

"DON'T blink if you're being held at gunpoint," one Twitter user quipped.

Another fan advised Smith, who recently led Australia in two Tests and three one-day internationals in India, to use his bat and not the microphone on his Indian return. Smith last played for the Delhi Capitals in the lucrative IPL in 2021 before he went unsold in the auction for the following season.

The star batsman kept himself out of this season's mini-auction in December but can be picked up as an injury replacement by any team.

WPL 2023: Hayley Matthews Claims Purple Cap, Meg Lanning Takes Orange

Mumbai Indians all-rounder Hayley Matthews bagged the Purple Cap, while Delhi Capitals captain Meg Lanning took the Orange Cap in the inaugural Women's Premier League on Sunday. After an outstanding campaign, Lanning was declared the WPL 2023 Orange Cap winner. The DC captain top-scored with 35 runs in the final inning and finished the season with 345 total. After nine matches, she finished the season with an average of 49.29 and a strike rate of 139.11.

Nat Sciver-Brunt, the match-winner for MI in both the knockouts and the competition, came in second. Before the playoffs, she wasn't even among the top five.

Hayley Matthews, one of the most significant players in the competition, won the Purple Cap after an outstanding stint that trigger DC's demise. The Caribbean all-rounder finished with 3-5 off of four overs, increasing her total number of wickets to 16. She was on par with Sophie Ecclestone of UP Warriorz, but she had a higher average and economy rate.

Over the course of the competition, MI's superiority in bowling was clearly seen. Amelia Kerr, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Saika Ishaque, and Issy Wong, among others, reached the list of the top 10 wicket-takers in the competition.

Coming to the match, Nat Sciver-Brunt's unbeaten half-century and tight spells from bowlers helped Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets to become the inaugural champions of Women's Premier League 2023 (WPL) here at Brabourne Stadium on Sunday.

Mumbai Indians thrash Delhi Capitals By 7 Wickets, Win Inaugural WPL Title

A late flourish from England all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt (60 not out) helped Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by seven wickets in a low-scoring summit clash to become champions of the inaugural Women's Premier League in Mumbai on Sunday. In front of a partisan crowd that filled the Brabourne Stadium here to the brim, Mumbai Indians chased down the target of 131 with three balls to spare to lift the trophy. Opting to bat first, Delhi Capitals suffered a collapse to be reduced to 79 for 9 in 16 overs but posted a respectable total of 131 for 9, thanks to a 52-run partnership for the unbroken 10th wicket between Shikha Pandey (27 not out) and Radha Yadav (27 not out).

It was not an easy run chase for MI but they eventually crossed the line, reaching 134 for 3 in 19.3 overs, with Sciver-Brunt and captain Harmanpreet (37) playing crucial roles.

Sciver-Brunt (60 not out from 55 balls, 7x4), also the Player of the Final, struck her third fifty and finished second behind DC captain Meg Lanning (345) in run-scorers' chart in the WPL with 332 runs.

Harmanpreet (37 from 39 balls, 5x4s) and Sciver-Brunt joined forces when MI were precariously placed at 23 for 2 in the fourth over, and combined their batting prowess to soak the pressure and add 72 runs for the third wicket.

MI needed 45 runs from the last five overs though they had eight wickets in hand then. Sciver-Brunt was 28 off 38 balls at that stage but she struck a flurry of boundaries to help her side cross the line.

In the process, Mumbai Indians recorded their second win over Delhi in three meetings this season, with their bowlers producing a stunning show in the first half.

MI made a shaky start, with Yastika Bhatia (4) hitting straight to deep midwicket for the fourth wicket of the final on a full toss, off Radha Yadav. Jess Jonassen dealt the second blow to Mumbai with Hayley Matthews (13 of 12 balls, 3x4s) chipping one straight to short midwicket.

Earlier, Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav fought back with a counter-attacking 52-run unbeaten stand for the 10th wicket, lifting Delhi to 131 for 9.

Delhi Capitals were off to a rocky start, collapsing from 74 for 3 in the 11th over to 79 for 9 after 16, thanks to devastating show from overseas bowlers Hayley Matthews (4-2-5-3), Isabelle Wong (4-0-42-3) and Amelia Kerr (4-0-18-2).

However, the 52-run stand between Shikha (27 not out from 17 balls) and Radha Yadav (27 not out from 12 balls) took them across the 100-mark and gave them a fighting chance.

Shikha hit three fours and one six in her knock, Radha smashed two boundaries and as many maximums.

Earlier, Matthews, Wong and Kerr had shared a total eight wickets between them to put Mumbai in a strong position.

While the Caribbean all-rounder Matthews took her wickets tally to 16 - highest in the tournament alongside UP Warriorz' Sophie Ecclestone - Wong and Kerr also finished at 15 wickets each.

Saika Ishaque failed to get any breakthrough and ended up with an impressive 15 wickets too.

The final was off to a dramatic start with MI claiming the first three wickets off full-tosses from Wong.

The first two decisions were ruled against the batters by the third umpire.

Shafali Verma (11 off 4 balls, 1x4s, 1x6s) began with a six over long-on and a four on the next ball in the second over from Wong, sliced over backward point to beat the third man.

However, the Delhi dasher was caught at point by Kerr off a full toss from the English bowler which was waist high.

Wong dealt another blow to the Delhi Capitals, again off a surprise full toss with Alice Capsey (0) failing to control her shot. The catch was completed by a stunning diving effort from Amanjot Kaur at extra cover, and left Delhi reeling at 12 for 2 in 1.5 overs.

Jemimah Rodrigues (9 off 8 balls, 2x4s) began with a superb cover drive off the first delivery she faced off Wong and brought out another drive against Sciver-Brunt in the third over. But before that, Lanning smacked two fours on the first two balls to shrug off some pressure.

But Delhi sunk further when a low full toss swinging away from the off stump from Wong, who changed the bowling ends, had Jemimah playing it straight to Hayley Matthews at point.

DC, who were 38 for 3 at the end of the powerplay, were steadied by Lanning and Kapp. At the halfway mark the Capitals were relatively safe at 68 for 3, but the worst was yet to come.

From 74 for 3 in the 11th over, Delhi Capitals collapsed to 77 for 7 after 14 overs with some poor batting and communication in the middle.

Kapp (18 off 21 balls, 2x4s), who hit her first four on the 17th ball she faced, was removed by Kerr in the 11th over with Yastika Bhatia grabbing the catch.

The South African all-rounder added 38 runs for the fourth wicket in 37 balls.

Mumbai Indians, however, made the biggest breakthrough in the 12th over when Delhi's captain and mainstay Lanning was run-out for 35.

Lanning's hesitation to run after Jess Jonassen (2) hurdled a delivery off towards Amanjot at cover cost her dearly, with Bhatia breaking the stumps.

Kerr claimed her second wicket by getting rid of Arundhati Reddy (0), and after Matthews spilled a return catch off Jonassen's bat in the 14th over, she grabbed a similar chance.

Matthews returned to cap off her best spell in the WPL, getting Minnu Mani (2) stumped to take her 15th wicket in the competition, and added one more when she got one to sneak between Taniya Bhatia's (0) bat and pads for her third wicket in the game to leave DC tottering at 79/9.

Captain Powell Powers Windies To Win In Rain-Hit 1st T20I vs South Africa

New West Indies captain Rovman Powell thrashed five sixes as he led his team to a three-wicket victory over South Africa in a rain-shortened first T20I at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Saturday. The match was reduced to 11 overs a side but produced 263 runs and 15 wickets in a frantic contest. Powell, who took over from Nicholas Pooran last month, hit 43 not out off 18 balls as the West Indies chased down a South African total of 131 for eight with three balls to spare.

He said the reduction in overs suited several of his players.

"A lot of the guys in the team are used to the T10 format," he said.

"We know the ball travels so much here, so 130 was gettable."

Opener Brandon King hit 23 off eight balls and Johnson Charles slammed 28 off 14 deliveries as the West Indies made an explosive start, scoring 84 for four in the first six overs.

David Miller clubbed 48 off 22 balls in South Africa's innings.

Wickets fell almost rapidly as boundaries were hit but Miller ensured a competitive total, hitting four fours and three sixes.

He and burly fast bowler Sisanda Magala smacked 47 off 13 balls for the seventh wicket.

Left-arm fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell took two wickets for seven runs in his first two overs but conceded 24 runs in the tenth over as Miller and Magala went on the rampage.

Magala hit a four and two sixes in an unbeaten 18 off five balls.

South African captain Aiden Markram said his team had started badly with both bat and ball.

"To take it to the last over was a great effort from the bowlers," he said.

Anrich Nortje took one for 17 in three overs of high-class fast bowling and Magala took three for 21, including two wickets in the penultimate over.

But spinners Bjorn Fortuin and Tabraiz Shamsi conceded a combined 69 runs off four overs.

The teams meet at the same venue on Sunday.

WPL Eliminator: Mumbai Indians Book Final Berth With Win vs UP Warriorz

Mumbai Indians beat UP Warriorz by 72 runs in the Eliminator clash to enter the finals of the Women's Premier League in Mumbai on Friday. MI will face Delhi Capitals in the title clash on Sunday. Sent into bat, Mumbai Indians scored 182 for four. MI were off to a decent start but both their openers -- Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia -- could not capitalise on their starts. Nat Sciver-Brunt top-scored for MI with a blistering 72 not out off 38 balls, and while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was out for 14, Melie Kerr chipped in with a 19-ball 29 before Pooja Vastrakar hit 11 in four balls. In reply, MI bowled out UPW for 110 in 17.4 overs, with Kiran Navgire making 43 off 27 balls.

Young pacer Issy Wong bagged 4/15 for MI during an excellent spell and also became the first ever player to pick up a hat-trick in the WPL.

Top Defence Stocks To Watch Out As India Approves Rs 70,500-Crore Order

Over the past one year or so, ever since Russia made its sinister intentions clear after invading Ukraine, the world has woken up to the possible threats of autocratic military powers.

The lesson that India learnt the hard way was it needed to be self-reliant in the defence sector. Ever since then, Indian defence stocks have been on a steady rise.

The rally in defence stocks is driven by a range of factors such as geopolitical tensions, increased defence spending, and the government's focus on self-reliance in defence production.

However, the recent decision by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) to accord Acceptance of Necessity to projects worth Rs 705 billion (bn) has given a fresh boost to the sector.

This decision paves the way for major military modernization projects. This move is expected to further fuel the growth of Indian defence stocks, making it an exciting theme for investors to track.

Let's take a look at the biggest defence manufacturing stocks which have already started to see an upmove.

#1 Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL)

Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) has seen significant additions to its order book in the past couple of months.

In fact, the company has already ramped up its production facilities and set up manufacturing facilities at some divisions.

We've been writing to you about HAL since early days, when the defence production megatrend was just taking shape and the government's policies for indigenous defence procurement were being finalised.

Out of the total outlay of Rs 705 bn, the largest proposal approved was for 60 utility helicopters-marine being constructed by HAL, costing Rs 320 bn.

HAL capitalized on this euphoria and surged around 5% on the same day.

HAL: Nothing but Blue Skies Ahead

01cer93g

Prior to this order, the cabinet approved the acquisition of 70 HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft from HAL for Rs 68.3 bn.

On Wednesday, 22 March 2023, the centre notified that it is planning to sell up to 3.5% stake in the aerospace and defence company.

This is a big divestment move, as the sale would garner a sum of Rs 28.7 bn, based on a floor price of Rs 2,450 apiece. The floor price is at a discount to Wednesday's closing price of Rs 2,625.2.

The latest shareholding pattern of HAL shows that government holds 75.15% stake in the company. The offer for sale (OFS) is being undertaken for achieving the minimum public shareholding in accordance with the market regulator's rules.

HAL is currently leading some of the most strategic projects in the aerospace and defence sector in India. With an order book of Rs 1 lakh crore and with several other projects on the anvil, the company is expected to perform well in the medium term.

#2 Bharat Forge

The next big beneficiary is Bharat Forge.

The council gave a nod for the purchase of 307 advanced towed artillery gun system (ATAGS) worth Rs 85.3 bn. This will be the first order for the domestic 155mm/52 caliber ATAGS, whose production partners are Bharat Forge and Tata Advanced Systems.

Under the procurement program for advanced wheeled armoured vehicles, Bharat Forge is the only listed company, the other two being unlisted Tata Advanced Systems and Mahindra Defence Systems.

Over the years, Bharat Forge has managed to diversify its product profile and geographic presence.

The company was long preparing to become a major private sector arms and ammunition supplier, and already working on some artillery gun platforms.

Towards the end of 2022, the company informed that its subsidiary, Kalyani Strategic Systems, has won an export order worth US$155.5 million (around Rs 13 bn) for the export of artillery gun systems.

Bharat Forge will enjoy superior margins on this order as it doesn't need to invest a large sum. It already has a facility underway with an investment of Rs 400 million (m).

Withing just a couple of years, Bharat Forge is seeing significant additions to its order book from this segment and having a health execution rate.

Not just these big tanks but Bharat Forge is firing across all verticals, be it drones or electric vehicles (EVs).

In January 2023, Bharat Forge collaborated with a subsidiary of General Atomics to develop a manufacturing ecosystem for high-end drones.

On the EV front, the company has a product portfolio aligned to EVs with various products in the pipeline to be launched by 2025. These include hydrogen fuel cell-based powertrain solutions, advanced electric chassis, advanced e-Axle, and sodium ion battery.

No wonder the company's management has laid out strong guidance of 12-15% annual growth in revenue between FY22 and FY30.

Bharat Forge Share Price – 3 Year Performance

How defence stocks are performing

Here's a table showing the performance of defence stocks:

Performance of Defence Stocks

j3bs0on8

As you can see, even a languishing defence PSU like Bharat Dynamics has logged in massive gains in the past two years. Mr Market seems to have taken a liking towards defence sector stocks.

This is due to a combination of factors including:

Increase in Defence Budget: India has been increasing its defence budget in recent years, which has provided a boost to the defence sector. The government's focus on modernizing the armed forces has resulted in increased spending on defence equipment and technology, which has benefited the defence industry.

Make in India Initiative: Modi government's "Make in India" initiative has encouraged domestic manufacturing of defence equipment and technology. This has led to a rise in demand for Indian defence stocks, as investors see potential for growth in the sector.

Geopolitical Tensions: India is located in a region with significant geopolitical tensions, including with neighboring countries like Pakistan and China. This has led to an increased focus on defence preparedness, which has benefited the defence sector.

Export Potential: Indian defence companies are increasingly looking to export their products to other countries, which has opened up new markets for the sector.

The future of defence stocks

We are entering times where threat of wars is increasing with every passing year. This fear of future wars is creating a huge opportunity for investors.

Over the coming years and decades, we could see a massive rally in some defence stocks.

But as an investor, it is essential that you choose right company to bet your money on.

Our research says that this decade could witness increases in the defence spending like we have probably never seen before.

That's the reason why our Co-head of Research Tanushree Banerjee is calling this decade the golden decade of defence stocks in India.

And she strongly believes that a few defence stocks could embark on a potential massive rally over the coming years and decades…

Happy Investing!

Wessly Madhevere Hat-Trick Sets Up Dramatic One-Run Zimbabwe Win

Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine's faith in spin paid off when Wessly Madhevere took a hat-trick to set up a dramatic finish as Zimbabwe beat Netherlands by one run in the second of three World Cup Super League one-day internationals in Harare on Thursday. It went down to the last ball when last man Ryan Klein was run out attempting a near-impossible third run which would have tied the match. The Netherlands were seemingly cruising in pursuit of Zimbabwe's 271 all out at 213 for four before off-spinner Madhevere dismissed Colin Ackermann, Teja Nidamanuru and Paul van Meekeren off the first three balls of the 44th over.

"I never imagined myself taking a hat-trick," said Madhevere.

"My task was to go for less than five runs an over. Taking a hat-trick was a bonus."

Madhevere scored 43 as an opening batsman and took three for 36 in nine overs to be named player of the match.

Madhevere and fellow off-spinner Sikandar Raza bowled in tandem until the 47th over and both took three wickets on a pitch that favoured slow bowlers.

Although fast bowler Tendai Chatara came back to bowl two overs at the end, Ervine kept Raza on to bowl the 49th over.

It paid off when he had Netherlands captain Scott Edwards caught at long-on for 36, with 20 runs still needed off nine balls.

"Probably six extra runs would have been ideal," Edwards said of his failure to clear Brad Evans on the boundary.

It came down to 10 needed off the last two balls.

Fred Klaassen hit a six off Chatara and then drove the last ball into the covers. The batsmen ran two but Brad Evans' throw to Chatara left Klein well short of his ground as the batsmen tried for a third run.

Max O'Dowd (81) and Tom Cooper (74) laid the foundation for what seemed a likely Netherlands win with a second-wicket partnership of 125 off 152 balls.

Sean Williams, returning after a finger injury, top-scored for Zimbabwe with 77 while 19-year-old leg-spinner Shariz Ahmad took five wickets for 43 runs for the Netherlands.

"It's my first five-for, it's a great feeling," said Shariz.

"But I would have loved to win the match rather than take a five-for."

Brief scores

Zimbabwe 271 in 49.2 overs (C. Ervine 39, W. Madhevere 43, S. Williams 77, C. Madande 52; P van Meekeren 2-66, C. Ackermann 2-51, Shariz Ahmad 5-43) v Netherlands 270 in 50 overs (M. O'Dowd 81, T. Cooper 74, S. Edwards 36; S. Raza 3-39, Madhevere 3-36)

Result: Zimbabwe won by one run

Series: Tied at 1-1 with final match on Saturday

Toss: Zimbabwe

ODI World Cup 2023 To Begin On October 5, Final On November 19: Report

The 2023 ODI World Cup will start on October 5 with the final taking place on November 19, according to a report on ESPNCricinfo. The report further stated that the Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has shortlisted around 12 venues for the tournament and the final will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The other venues are - Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamshala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot and Mumbai. The competition will have 48 matches across 46 days with 10 teams fighting it out for the coveted trophy.

While the report stated the list for the main venues, the board is expected to announce 2-3 more venues for warm-up matches ahead of the tournament. The main factor behind the choices will be the chances of rain and the presence of infrastructure needed to get the field ready in time.

While the fixtures for World Cups are generally announced one year in advance, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is still waiting to understand the situation surrounding the visa situation of Pakistan cricketers and the tax exemptions on offer from the Indian government.

As part of an agreement signed by the BCCI and ICC, a tax exemption was promised for three tournaments from 2016 to 2023. The report claimed that the BCCI was “obligated” to help the ICC (along with other commercial entities involved with the tournament) with tax waivers.

On the other hand, Pakistan cricketers have not travelled to India since 2013 for any tournament but the BCCI made it clear that their visas will be cleared by the Indian government.

"No Plans To Sell Bisleri Now," Says Chairman Ramesh Chauhan

Veteran industrialist Ramesh Chauhan on Monday said he has no plans to sell his packaged water business Bisleri International and is not in talks with any parties for the same, three days after Tata Consumer Products Ltd called off their negotiations.

Ramesh Chauhan had been in negotiations with the Tata group's FMCG arm Tata Consumer Products Ltd (TCPL) for nearly four months but the deal did not go through.

When asked as to whether he has any plans to sell Bisleri now, Mr Chauhan told PTI "We have no plans." However, when asked about media report suggesting that his daughter Jayanti Chauhan is ready to lead the company, the 82-year-old pioneer of the Indian packaged water business declined to comment.

Earlier in November last year, Mr Chauhan had said he was in discussions with several players, including TCPL, to sell out his Bisleri business.

On being asked about the reasons for the sale of Bisleri's business, the octogenarian business leader had said someone had to handle it and look into it.

His daughter Jayanti is not interested in handling the business, Mr Chauhan had added.

Later in a media statement, Bisleri International Spokesperson had also said: "We are currently in discussion and cannot disclose further." However, last week resting the speculations about a possible acquisition, TCPL, in a regulatory update, said it has not entered into any agreements over the acquisition of Bisleri.

"In this regard, the company wishes to update that it has now ceased negotiations with Bisleri with regard to a potential transaction and to confirm that the company has not entered into any definitive agreement or binding commitment on this matter," TCPL had said.

Bisleri International operates in the bottled water segment with its flagship brand Bisleri and spring water Vedica. It is also present in fizzy drinks with brands - Spyci, Limonata, Fonzo and PinaColada.

Three decades ago, Chauhans sold their soft drinks business to the US beverage major The Coca-Cola Company. He transferred brands such as Thums Up, Gold Spot, Citra, Maaza and Limca in 1993 to the Atlanta-headquartered firm.

TCPL was formed after merging the consumer products business of Tata Chemicals with Tata Global Beverages. It has done some acquisitions and is expanding its reach in the addressable market as it aspires to be a formidable player in the FMCG category by expanding its play into the existing category and venturing into new areas.

TCPL is already present in the bottled water segment with its brand Himalayan. Besides, it is also present in the hydration segment with Tata Copper Plus Water and Tata Gluco.

Women From Urban Slums Invited To Watch Gujarat Giants Play In WPL

The Adani Foundation, the CSR arm of the Adani Group, invited 50 women from the urban slum communities to experience and enjoy the colourful environment that the Women's Premier League provides. These women, visiting a cricket stadium for the first time ever, were visibly excited to be at the iconic Brabourne Stadium, at the Cricket Club of India. The women came to watch the Gujarat Giants, led by Sneh Rana and mentored by Mithali Raj, take on Royal Challengers Bangalore.

While the occasion was massive for these outstanding women, it also shone the spotlight on the fact that women's sport is on the uptick and the importance of the big stage was not lost on these special invitees as they loved the sight of women cricketers take centre stage in front of a packed house.

"There were a few extra voices we could hear from the dugout during the game, and when I looked around and saw that we had some very talented women in the stands, it brought a big smile to my face, and everyone in the team was also happy to see this. The Adani Foundation's initiative to invite a special and outstanding bunch of women to the game was a very touching gesture. This evening is something that we all will remember with fond memories, and kudos to those who put this together so nicely," said Mithali Raj, Mentor and Advisor, Gujarat Giants.

India vs Australia: Rain Likely To Play Spoilsport During Second ODI Match

Rain is likely to play a role in the second ODI between India and Australia at Visakhapatnam. The second ODI between India and Australia will be played at Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. But weather could play a spoilsport and ruin the party of millions of cricket fans who will catch this match live from the stadium or through electronic mediums. Earlier, a weather forecast had suggested the likelihood of rain on Saturday and Sunday in Visakhapatnam, where rain was reported multiple times on Saturday evening. Andhra Cricket Association secretary SR Gopinath Reddy said on Saturday that there is a good arrangement of super soppers and an underground drainage system at the stadium.

"There is a good arrangement of super soppers and underground drainage system in the stadium. We are also covering the whole outfield, not only the pitch. The drainage system in this ground is good. If it rains only for a few hours, then the game can be started after drying the ground. But if it rains for a long time, it will affect the match. After the rain stops, we can prepare the ground within an hour," said Reddy to ANI.

India is currently leading the three-match ODI series by 1-0.

In the first match, spells from Mohammed Shami (3/17), Mohammed Siraj (3/29) and Ravindra Jadeja (2/46) helped India bundled out Australia for 188 in just 35.4 overs. Only Mitchell Marsh (81 off 65) was able to make a big contribution with the bat.

In the chase of 189, Mitchell Starc's (3/49) opening spell reduced India to 39/4 and Marcus Stoinis also took two scalps, but a 108-run stand between KL Rahul (75*) and Ravindra Jadeja (45*) helped India seal a five-wicket win with more than 10 overs to spare.

Jadeja was adjudged as 'Man of the Match' for his all-round performance.

The third ODI will take place at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 22.

Earlier, India had won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia after sealing a 2-1 win in the red-ball leg of the series. With this win, they have qualified for the ICC World Test Championship and will face Australia at The Oval, London from June 7 onwards.

WPL: Devine Stars With 99-Run Knock As RCB Register 2nd Consecutive Win

Sophie Devine lit up the Mumbai skyline with an astonishing 36-ball 99 as Royal Challengers Bangalore made short work of a 189-run target for an eight-wicket victory over Gujarat Giants in the Women's Premier League in Mumbai on Saturday. It rained sixes from the broad willow of Devine as RCB breezed past the target with as many as 27 balls to spare and keep their slim playoff hopes alive with a second successive victory. Devine, who has also represented New Zealand in hockey before starting out in cricket as a bowler often batting at number 11, played an innings that will go down as one of the finest in the history of the T20 format.

During her stay in the middle, Devine struck eight towering sixes and nine fours.

Earlier, South Africa's star batter Laura Wolvaardt top-scored with a scintillating 42-ball 68 before a 22-run final over powered Gujarat Giants to 188 for four.

Ashleigh Gardner (41 off 26 balls) also played a brisk knock before Harleen Deol (12 not out) and Dayalan Hemalatha (16 not out) ended GG's innings by smashing a clueless Megan Schutt for two sixes and two fours.

Chasing a stiff target, RCB were off to a rollicking start with the opening duo of skipper Smriti Mandhana (37) and Sophie Devine sending the GG bowlers on a leather hunt with their breathtaking batting.

While there were innumerable sixes and fours, the highlight was Devine's maximum against left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar, smoking her over the midwicket for the tournament's biggest six at 94 metres.

A four and two more sixes followed from the willow of Devine as RCB raced to 125 for no loss in only the ninth over.

This was an over after the New Zealander Devine smashed Harleen Deol for an 86-metre six over to bring up her half-century off a mere 20 balls.

The 100 was up in the eighth over and what looked like an imposing total at the beginning of the RCB innings now looked very much within reach.

While Mandhana, who also meted out harsh treatment to Kanwar by hitting her for a six and two fours in an 18-run first over, got out after 37-ball 31, there was no stopping Devine as she punished Ashwani Kumari with a six and a four.

Finally, it was Kim Garth who brought an end to Devine's knock, but by then, she had already paced the way for RCB's victory.

Earlier, batting first after Sneh Rana won the toss, both Sophia Dunkley and Laura Wolvaardt showed positive intent at the start, hitting two boundaries each in the first two overs.

However, a ball after pulling Sophie Devine over midwicket for a four, Dunkley's leg stump was knocked over after the batter had shuffled across too much to play the scoop shot over fine leg to a good length delivery.

Unperturbed by the setback, Wolvaardt looked to control the innings and found the fence two more times to take GG to 40 for one in five overs.

Introduced into the attack, Ellyse Perry started on a fine note and gave away just a single off her first five balls, before she conceded a boundary off a half-volley at the Brabourne Stadium. Nevertheless, it was a good over by Perry.

Leg-spinner Asha Shobana too bowled a tidy first over, conceding, like Perry, only five runs.

Having got her eye in after spending some time in the middle, Sabbhineni Meghana broke the shackles with a boundary off Preeti Bose's first delivery off the eighth over. However, Bose came back well and gave away four runs in her next five balls.

Bose broke the 63-run partnership between Meghana and Wolvaardt when the bowler had the Indian batter stumped by Richa Ghosh in what looked like a lazy dismissal.

Ashleigh Gardner walked in and she meant business straightaway, hitting Asha for a six over long-on even as Wolvaardt, at the other end, continued to accumulate runs and reached her half-century off 35 balls, reaching the mark with a six over midwicket against Perry.

Wolvaardt then launched into Megan Schutt, smashing her for a six and a four, but Shreyanka Patil brought an end to her innings when the South African hit a low full toss straight to Bose at short midwicket.

Gardner then took it upon herself to finish GG's innings on a high note, hitting a flurry of fours before getting out lbw to Patil.

"My Mindset Was To...": Shami On Bowling Strategy In 1st ODI vs Australia

The moment Mohammad Shami bowled the first ball of his second spell, it felt as if everything has fallen in place. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja's star turn with the bat might have got India a five-wicket against Australia in the first ODI but the credit for restricting visitors to a gettable total goes to Shami. "It felt alright right from the first ball of the second spell. The ball was coming off nicely from the point of release," Shami told the mediapersons after the match. "We talk about the seam position or off the deck, but the focus was to keep the ball in good areas because they were playing on the back-foot. My mindset was to pitch the ball a little further with a slip in place, as I had done in the first spell," he explained.

Shami said it was pleasing to see Rahul playing a key role with the bat after a long period of struggle with the bat and criticism from almost all corners.

"He has played so many good innings in the past. It happens sometimes that luck does not favour you, or things are not working out well if you are trying to do something," Shami said.

"The pressure (on Rahul) was certainly there, we had lost so many wickets in quick succession but the way he rebuilt, it was very nice to see that one of our players has made runs in a pressure situation," Shami added.

The right-arm India pacer, who returned with 6-2-17-3 on Friday, said it is important to clinch the momentum at the right time in venues like the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

"If you see overall then there have been high-scoring matches as well here. The pitches here have good bounce, the ball comes nicely on the bat too, (big) runs are also scored here at this venue," Shami said.

"But if you would have noticed, whenever someone bowls in the right areas, (the course) of a match changes. It is all about when you are able to shift the momentum - early or late. That is what we pulled off today, once we got the momentum on our side after the 20th over, we capitalised on it and we were able to stop them at 188," he said.

Enjoyed bowling with Siraj

Shami said he enjoys bowling in tandem with Mohammed Siraj in the absence of an injured Jasprit Bumrah.

"It has been a long time since Bumrah has not been playing. It is our hard luck that he is not there. But we have a very good overall bowling unit for both white and red balls. We support each other a great deal," Shami said.

"Siraj has been playing for a while, he has the confidence. It is important to see how well the other bowler is doing when bowling in partnerships. We try to bowl as tight as possible, keeping the ball in specific patches. As a senior bowler you have to lead the way," he added.

Shami said it is important for players to be smart about their workload management with two big events, the ICC World Test Championship final and the World Cup lined up.

"There is a lot of time left for the WTC final and World Cup. As a player, you cannot think that far ahead. You never know what will happen tomorrow." But you have to be smart as far as workload is concerned, you have to work on your strengths. You know your workload as per international cricket. It is better to take it series by series or match by match," he said.

Didn't expect the track to be this challenging

Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, on the other hand, expressed that his side did not expect the pitch to be as challenging as it turned out to be.

"It was probably not exactly what we expected. It also shows we did not adapt quick enough. We did not get enough runs on the board and the pitch did a bit through the whole game, even with the old ball," Stoinis said.

The ploy to play eight batters didn't work, admitted Stoinis.

"We were short by runs, not by bowlers. We are experimenting with combinations, and by playing eight batters we would have loved to put the scoreboard pressure. We did not sum up the conditions well and did not bat well," he added.

"I'm So Proud": Pandya Lauds Rahul, Jadeja After Win Over Australia

Hardik Pandya gave a big thumbs up to the embattled KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, following India's five-wicket win against Australia in the first ODI here, saying they had a huge calming effect on those watching from the sidelines. Test vice-captain Rahul, who was dropped for the third and fourth Tests against Australia because of poor form, struck an unbeaten 75 and along with Jadeja (45 not out) helped the hosts take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. "I am really proud the way we played today. Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja) did what he was supposed to do coming back after eight months away from ODIs. I enjoyed my bowling and batting, would have loved to finish it off, but the way KL (Rahul) and Jaddu batted, it was calming to those watching from the outside," said Pandya, the stand-in India skipper for the match at Wankhede.

Rahul, who mostly opens for India, was brought at No.5 following his Test disappointments. But despite the chips being down, he played patiently, consuming 96 balls for his well-made 75.

Pandya conceded India were under pressure while bowling as well as batting, but in the end the team's composure saw it through.

Mitchell Marsh's 65-ball 81 and the quick start the visitors got did put India under some stress but Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Jadeja kept chipping away with timely wickets to finally bundle out Australia for 188 in 35.4 overs.

"We were under pressure in both the innings, but we kept our composure, and found ways to come out of those situations. When we got the momentum our way, we didn't let it go," added Pandya.

'Player of the Match' Jadeja said playing ODI cricket after eight months due to a knee surgery, he was only looking to get used to the format and that his performance had come as a bonus.

"Playing ODI cricket after eight months, I was just looking to adapt to the format as early as possible. Luckily I got two wickets, and with the bat I was only looking to build a partnership with KL (Rahul).

"We were playing Test cricket so the line and length is different here. You can't keep bowling one pace. I was just looking to bowl in good areas. Also I was getting a little bit of turn, so I thought I need to bowl in the right areas and the wicket will do the rest," added Jadeja.

Losing team captain Steve Smith said a score in the vicinity of 260-270 would have been par for the wicket, adding that India bowled really well to rock their boat.

"We weren't expecting this when we rocked up here. India bowled well this morning, but we probably left a few out there. Had we got 250, we would have had some match.

"Mitch (Marsh) started really well. He took the game on early, and got a few away. Through the middle we lost a few too many wickets. We were always one partnership from them beating us, and Jadeja and Rahul did that. 260-270 was par.

"It (wicket) was offering a fair bit for the seamers. The ball swung pretty much throughout. We just needed to score more runs. If we had got a partnership and take it deeper. It was not to be, and credit to India," lamented Smith.

WPL: Gardner Shines As Gujarat Giants Beat Delhi Capitals By 11 Runs

A fine bowling performance, coupled with Laura Wolvaardt (57) and Ashleigh Gardner's (51 not out) battling half-centuries helped Gujarat Giants defeat Delhi Capitals by 11 runs and take sweet revenge for their 10-wicket loss earlier, in a Women's Premier League match in Mumbai on Thursday. Chasing 148 for victory, Delhi Capitals were bundled out for 136 in 18.4 overs, with their entire top and middle-order, including captain Meg Lanning (18) and Shafali Verma (8), failing to impress. Marizanne Kapp was the highest run-getter for Delhi Capitals, scoring a 29-ball 36 and her run out at the team's score on 97/6 took the wind out of the side's sails. Tailenders Arundhati Reddy (25) and Shikha Pandey (8 not out) provided some entertainment with a 35-run partnership but to no avail.

Brief scores: Gujarat Giants 147 for 4 in 20 overs (Laura Wolvaardt 57, Ashleigh Gardner 51 not out, Harleen Deol 31; Marizanne Kapp 1/24, Jess Jonassen 2/38).

Delhi Capitals 136 in 18.4 overs (Alice Capsey 22, Marizanne Kapp 36; Tanuja Kanwar 2/29; Ashleigh Gardner 2/19, Kim Garth 2/18).

Mumbai Indians Trounce Gujarat Giants Again, Clinch WPL Playoff Berth

Mumbai Indians' juggernaut continued in the Women's Premier League on Tuesday as the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team stormed to their fifth win in a row, crushing Gujarat Giants by 55 runs. MI thus clinched a playoff berth with three matches still remaining. After making a thumping start to the inaugural WPL against Gujarat Giants with a massive 143-run win at the DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai Indians once again got the better of their opponents with a comprehensive all-round show at the Brabourne Stadium.

Gujarat Giants, who stuttered to a fourth loss in five matches and remained on the penultimate spot in the five-team points table, made 107/9 in 20 overs chasing 163 on a pitch that had something for all parties.

In their previous meeting, Gujarat were bundled out for 64 in 15.1 overs in a chase of 208.

Hayley Matthews made up for her failure with the bat to return with 4-0-24-3 while leg-spinner Amelia Kerr bagged 2/18 to fuel Mumbai's yet another impressive win in front of a partisan crowd.

Also producing an all-round show for Mumbai was Nat Sciver-Brunt, who returned 4-0-21-3 after scoring a vital 36 off 31 balls studded with five fours and a six.

While each of Mumbai's overseas bowlers were among wickets, India's uncapped Saika Ishaque remained wicketless in her 4-0-20-0.

Mumbai Indians looked steady but not sure of a strong total at the halfway mark in their innings after being asked to bat first, having scored 64 for one in 10 overs.

However, captain Harmanpreet Kaur smashed a 30-ball 51 laced with seven fours and two sixes, her blitz powering Mumbai Indians to a challenging 162/8.

Yastika Bhatia (44) and Sciver-Brunt did well to consolidate, adding 74 for the second wicket.

After a sedate first half, Mumbai Indians went the aggressive route to add 98 runs in the last 10 overs.

In the second half, Mumbai Indians made a terrific start with Sciver-Brunt striking on the first ball, trapping the in-form Sophie Dunkley, who had struck 65 in her last outing at this venue.

Sabbhineni Meghana showed initial promise with some cracking boundaries, but perished for 16 off Hayley Matthews in the sixth over after a brief 21-run stand with Harleen Deol.

Matthews struck again three balls later, removing Annabel Sutherland for a four-ball duck to leave Gujarat tottering at 34/3 at the end of the powerplay.

With that, Matthews (9) moved up to the second spot in the list of bowlers with the most wickets, surpassing Delhi Capitals' Shikha Pandey (8) and Sophie Ecclestone (8) of the UP Warriorz.

Gujarat Giants not only struggled to get off the blocks but also lost wickets in heaps. After Isabelle Wong trapped Harleen Deol (22) leg-before before the first strategic break, Ashleigh Gardner (8) was dismissed right after resumption by Kerr, who also accounted for Dayalan Hemlatha (6).

Among the bright spots for Gujarat Giants was captain Sneh Rana's spell of 4-0-17-1 and a 19-ball 20 which helped stem the fall of wickets for a short while.

Kaur lost her fourth toss on the trot in WPL as Gujarat Giants captain Sneh Rana elected to field while making two changes. Laura Wolvaardt and Georgia Wareham made way for Dunkley and Sutherland, whereas Mumbai Indians remained unchanged.

US Stance On Silicon Valley Bank Reassuring For Indian Startups: Nasscom

Apex IT industry body Nasscom on Monday said the US administration's stance on protecting depositors of Silicon Valley Bank that collapsed, is "reassuring" for Indian startups who have funds in that bank.

Biden administration's announcement that depositors of failed Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) will have access to their money, has given hope and will address the immediate financial issues that these startups were grappling with, Nasscom's Senior Vice President and chief strategy officer Sangeeta Gupta told PTI.

California-based SVB, the 16th largest bank in the United States, was closed on Friday by the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation which later appointed the US Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as its receiver.

SVB was deeply entrenched in the tech startup ecosystem and the default bank for many high-flying startups; its abrupt fall marked one of the largest bank failures since the 2008 global financial crisis.

The bank failed after clients -- many of the venture capital firms and VC-backed companies that the bank had cultivated overtime -- began pulling out their deposits, creating a run on the bank.

"The statement (issued by the Department of the Treasury, Federal Reserve, and FDIC) is reassuring for Indian startups who had funds invested in SVB, and will address immediate financial issue they were grappling with," Nasscom's Gupta said.

An industry watcher said the last few days had been "stressful" for startups and companies who had exposure to SVB, and the US government's statement has signalled relief for those who were left in a lurch after desperate last-minute attempts to withdraw deposits were unsuccessful last week.

Of course, there will be a wait-and-watch on how long the entire process will take. That said, the 'energy levels' among such startups is certainly different since the US administration's assurances came in, sources said.

According to experts, companies will be much more vigilant and careful about how they park funds from here on, and may choose to distribute their deposits across multiple accounts and banks, to safeguard their money and mitigate risks.

Meanwhile, Gaurav VK Singhvi, Co-Founder at We Founder Circle, noted that over the years, SVB has been a reliable and go-to bank for many Indian SaaS (Software as a Service) and Y Combinator-backed startups owing to its versatility, adaptability and convenience of fundraising activities.

"... the news of its sudden collapse came as a surprise to many, forcing many startups to transfer their accounts to different banks, however, the jitters of its downfall will have a limited impact on Indian startups both directly and indirectly," Singhvi said.

"Wwe must also recognise that SVB's clients have been struggling for cash over the past year and with the restricted runway, the consequences could be hugely damaging if they do not withdraw their cash on time for payroll and other operational purposes", Singhvi added.

Established in 2020 in Mumbai, We Founder Circle (WFC) is a global community of founders and strategic angels that have come together to push the startup industry and steer it towards robust growth path.

WFC provides seed funding, business development, and global networking opportunities to startups as it believes early-stage ventures need a lot beyond just financial support to become scalable and stable. It has already enabled USD 20 million worth of investments across 100-plus startup deals since incorporation.

Harbhajan Picks Chennai Super Kings' X-Factor In IPL 2023. It's Not Dhoni

Former India and Chennai Super Kings cricketer Harbhajan Singh feels that star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will be the X factor for the four-time champions in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. Jadeja has made a successful return to top-flight cricket after spending several months away due to a knee surgery, playing a vital role in India's 2-1 win in the four-Test series against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2022-23. The veteran all-rounder will once again be playing a key role for CSK after a rocky season last year, when he was named the captain with the regular leader for many years, MS Dhoni, stepping down.

But the captaincy stint didn't go well for Jadeja, who has played for Chennai since 2012. The team lost six out of the first eight matches and Jadeja stepped down from the post, with Dhoni taking over the leadership role once again, which he will continue with in the 2023 IPL.

The IPL 2023 starts on March 31 with Chennai Super Kings slated to face the defending champions Gujarat Titans in the opening match.

Harbhajan told Star Sports, "The one person who everyone should keep an eye on is Ravindra Jadeja, especially how he bats for CSK. He may be promoted up the order plus he has his four overs. If you look at it from a world cricket perspective, I don't think there's a better all-rounder than him." "I'm looking forward to seeing Ravindra Jadeja in the IPL. The X factor for me will be Ravindra Jadeja because he has been very successful in these conditions as a bowler and a batsman, he's been playing there for so many years. So for me, he is definitely going to be the X factor for the side." The ex-India spinner, also a former player for CSK, said Dhoni remains the heart of the team.

"The biggest strength of this team is MS Dhoni. He is the heart of the team. He knows the team very well and he is probably the best person to get the most out of each player in the team." According to the spin great, the likes of Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali and Devon Conway and Maheesh Theekshana will play a vital role in their IPL 2023 season.

"Firstly I would select Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali ofcourse, Conway will definitely be in the side and Theekshana, before Pathirana because Theekshana will be more effective in Chennai. But if the match happens in a place like Mumbai, against Mumbai Indians, then I will select Pathirana because he bowls a lot like Malinga and spin doesn't play a big factor over there.

"If I have to select the four overseas players it would be Conway, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali and Theekshana," he expressed.
